I've had a number of complaints of registration/password reminder emails not being sent. They are indeed getting sent but some email providers (particularly yahoo, hotmail, comcast) are flagging the emails as spam, so you won't see them in your inbox, you will have to check your spam/filtered mail folder. As far as free email providers go, gmail seems to work fine.
